  • 1/2 cup sour cream (room temperature)
  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 6 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare three 6-inch cake tins by buttering, flouring, and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients: milk, sour cream, and vanilla.
  4. Using a mixer, cream butter and sugar together until smooth. Gradually add egg whites while mixing until fully combined.
  5. Alternately add the dry mixture and wet mixture to the creamed butter until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
