  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the diced green bell pepper and onion until softened, about 5 minutes. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  4. Press half of the meat mixture into the bottom of a loaf pan. Layer with 4 slices of provolone cheese and the sautéed vegetables. Top with the remaining meat mixture and seal the edges.
  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until cooked through; add remaining provolone slices during the last 5 minutes of baking.
  6. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
