  • 3/4 pound extra lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chopped stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, brown the ground beef with minced garlic and chopped onion for about 10 minutes. Drain any excess liquid.
  2. Add the chopped tomatoes, beef broth, chili powder, ground cumin, oregano, and cayenne pepper. Stir well to combine.
  3. Reduce heat to low and cover the pan. Let the chili simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally to meld flavors.
  4. Stir in the rinsed pinto beans and salt. Cook for an additional 15 minutes until heated through.
